Two butterflies and the moon shibori wall hanging
Shibori is the Japanese art of tie dye originally used to dye kimono and other goods! These butterflies (or moths?) and their moon have been stitched, tightened, tied and dyed using methods called "nui shibori" and "kumo shibori". Nui shibori is the art of stitching pictures and patterns of Japanese dye work. Kumo means "spiderweb" and is a method of binding fabric with thread before dyeing. The dark navy of the dye contrasts sharply with the white of the butterfly wings and the ghostly moon. The wall hanging comes with a tube at the top and a dowel: ready for hanging.
This wall hanging is made of hand dyed cotton. It is 16 inches wide, 40 3/8 inches long and comes ready to hang on a 19 inch wood dowel.
